Monitoring of enclosure parameters such as temperature and humidity is essential in providing any reptile or amphibian species with the correct environment. Research shows that humidity is one of the core elements required to make many species thrive.
Many species, such as Chameleons as well as many WC animals will only drink from droplets on objects such as plants and so require misting frequently. An automated misting system allows the animal to be sprayed at programmed intervals even when the keeper is away. This will help maintain higher humidity levels as well as provide drinking opportunities. This is also great for shy animals that are reluctant to drink from a water bowl or come out from the hiding place when people are present.
It is important to monitor your enclosures relative humidity (%RH) using a hygrometer. It is worth noting that in larger enclosures humidity may vary greatly throughout so it is worth checking multiple areas, either by moving the probe or with the addition of multiple units.
