The Voracious Four-Clawed Gecko (Gehyra vorax) is a robust, nocturnal gecko adapted to a wide range of tropical island environments. It typically exhibits grey to brown coloration with variable mottling, providing camouflage against bark, rock, and man-made surfaces. The species is highly scansorial and frequently occupies elevated positions on trees, cliffs, and buildings.
A vertically oriented enclosure with extensive climbing opportunities is recommended. Branches, cork bark, rock-like surfaces, and vertical hides should be provided, as this species makes frequent use of both natural and artificial structures. Multiple retreat sites at varying heights support its preference for concealed resting areas.
A stable thermal gradient should be maintained, with access to a warm zone and cooler areas for thermoregulation. Moderate to high humidity is suitable, reflecting its tropical distribution, and should be maintained through regular misting alongside adequate ventilation. A shallow water dish should be available at all times.
This species feeds readily on a wide range of appropriately sized live insects and other invertebrates. Feeding is typically most active at night, and a varied diet is recommended alongside routine calcium supplementation in captivity.
Due to its nocturnal and agile nature, this species is best maintained with minimal handling. When kept under suitable conditions, it exhibits natural behaviours including wall climbing, nocturnal foraging, and frequent use of vertical and elevated shelter sites.
