Description

  • Origin: Southeast Asia (likely Thailand)
  • Common name: Sunset Troglodillo, Sunset Isopod
  • Adult Size: 1.5 – 2 cm
  • Temperature: 22 – 26 °C
  • Humidity: 70 – 85%

The genus Troglodillo is closely related to Cubaris and shares many of the same traits, including the ability to conglobate (roll into a ball) when threatened. These tropical isopods are found in humid environments, often associated with caves and leaf litter in forested habitats.

Troglodillo sp. ‘Sunset’ is an especially attractive variety, named for its warm orange colour that resemble the colours of a sunset sky. This striking colouration makes it highly desirable for display enclosures and specialist isopod collections.

Care requirements are similar to those of Cubaris species: they need a consistently humid enclosure with well-ventilated, moist microhabitats, combined with a nutrient-rich substrate of soil, leaf litter, decaying wood, and moss. Providing a gradient of damp and slightly drier areas will help prevent moulting issues and ensure colony success.

Troglodillo sp. ‘Sunset’ is moderately delicate compared to hardier isopods like Porcellio, and is better suited for keepers with some prior experience maintaining tropical Cubaris-type setups. When conditions are stable, they can establish and breed reliably.

Sold in a tub of 10.
