The Regal Jumping Spider (Phidippus regius) is one of the largest and most charismatic jumping spider species in the world. Native to the southeastern United States, particularly Florida, this species is well known for its excellent vision, curious personality, and active daytime hunting behaviour. Unlike web-building spiders, P. regius is a visual hunter that stalks and pounces on prey with remarkable accuracy.

In captivity, Regal Jumping Spiders thrive in a small arboreal or semi-arboreal enclosure with plenty of vertical surfaces and anchor points for webbing. They will often build small silken retreats in the upper areas of their enclosure where they rest, moult, and lay eggs. Temperatures between 22–28 °C are ideal, with a slight drop at night to around 18–20 °C. Moderate humidity of around 50–70% is recommended, which can be maintained with light misting every few days to provide drinking droplets and maintain hydration.

Their diet consists of appropriately sized live insects such as fruit flies, small crickets, green bottle flies, and other small feeder insects. Regal Jumping Spiders are active hunters and will readily pursue moving prey during daylight hours.

This species is widely regarded as one of the best beginner jumping spiders due to its hardy nature and inquisitive temperament. While delicate and not intended for frequent handling, many individuals show little fear of human interaction and may even jump between hands when approached calmly.

Their striking appearance also makes them highly desirable. Females are typically larger and often display shades of brown, grey, orange, or cream with distinctive patterning, while males are usually black with bold white markings and iridescent green or blue chelicerae.

Lifespan for Regal Jumping Spiders typically ranges from 1–2 years, with females generally living longer than males.
