Agalychnis callidryas is one of the most recognisable arboreal frogs in the hobby, famous for its vivid green body, bright red eyes, blue-and-yellow flanks, and orange feet. Despite their striking appearance, they rely primarily on camouflage, keeping their eyes closed during the day and revealing their colours suddenly when disturbed as a defensive display. This species is nocturnal and becomes active after dusk.

In captivity, Red-Eyed Tree Frogs require a tall, vertically oriented enclosure with dense planting, broad leaves, and climbing structures. Live plants help maintain humidity and provide natural resting sites. Regular misting is essential, and good airflow must be maintained to prevent respiratory issues. A shallow water area or clean water dish should always be available.

Feeding response is typically strong, with frogs readily hunting moving prey during nighttime hours. All feeder insects should be appropriately sized, gut-loaded, and dusted with calcium and vitamin supplements to support long-term health.

Red-Eyed Tree Frogs are best kept as display animals and should not be handled except when absolutely necessary, as their skin is delicate and sensitive. With stable temperature, high humidity, and minimal disturbance, they settle well and display natural resting and nocturnal behaviours.
