Porcellio scaber is a very hardy species that is happy with a broad range of temperatures. It does not require the high levels of humidity of many Isopod species and therefore can be maintained in a drier environment. This tolerance for drier environments and large range of humidity makes it very suitable for a beginner. It exists in a few colour forms, all of which require the same care. They prefer a more protein rich diet than many other Porcellio species, and in general will favour animal matter over plant matter.
Their common name of Rough Woodlouse comes from their bumpy carapace which can be seen when viewed up close.
This species is available in a wide array of colour and pattern variations, this mixed group contains a few wild type animals along with a few different colour phases. These can be separated out and bred from, or left as an attractive mixed group for some visual variety.
