The Spanish Giant Isopod (Porcellio expansus ‘La Sénia’) is a large striking species from Spain, with this particular variety being descended from animals of the La Sénia region of Spain. The expansus from this region are characterised by their even larger size and width, being the largest population of this species. Thus making them one of the largest Porcellio isopods overall!
Like the species in general, it is hardy but benefits from a substrate that includes both moist refuges and drier areas, allowing natural behaviour such as burrowing and foraging. Cork bark, leaf litter, and decaying wood help create suitable microclimates in the enclosure. Good airflow is recommended to prevent excessive humidity.
Several regional varieties of P. expansus exist, but the La Senia form is particularly noted for its large size and increased orange colouration, making it desirable among collectors and bioactive keepers.
