Pied, also known as Piebald is a colour morph of the Rough Woodlouse (Porcellio scaber). The Pied gene is recessive and causes varying patches of missing pigment, creating pale areas unique to each animal. This mutation can be combined with other mutations to create combos. Similar to other pied animals, like Royal Pythons, the animals vary greatly in the quantity of pied markings making it hard to identify low pied animals, at times.

P. scaber is a very hardy species that is happy with a broad range of temperatures. It does not require the high levels of humidity of many Isopod species and therefore can be maintained in a drier environment. This tolerance for drier environments and large range of humidity makes it very suitable for a beginner. It exists in a few colour forms, all of which require the same care. They prefer a more protein rich diet than many other Porcellio species, and in general will favour animal matter over plant matter.

Their common name of Rough Woodlouse comes from their bumpy carapace which can be seen when viewed up close.
