Peter’s Bent-toed Gecko (Cyrtodactylus consobrinus) is a medium-sized gecko from the rainforests of Southeast Asia. Like other bent-toed geckos, it is distinguished by its slender body, elongated tail, and curved digits adapted for climbing in forest environments. Primarily nocturnal, this species shelters in leaf litter, under logs, and in crevices during the day, emerging at night to hunt for invertebrates.
In captivity, C. consobrinus requires a secure terrarium with abundant hiding places and climbing opportunities. A naturalistic setup with bark, branches, and leaf litter works well to replicate their forest habitat. Temperatures should remain warm and stable, with an ambient range of 24–28°C, while a slight drop at night is beneficial. High humidity (70–90%) should be maintained, with daily misting to provide hydration and allow them to shed properly.
Their diet should consist of a variety of live insects such as crickets, roaches, and worms, all gut-loaded and dusted with calcium and vitamin supplements. They are active and alert hunters, displaying a strong feeding response when kept properly. With consistent care, C. consobrinus can live over 10 years in captivity.
The Forest Bent-toed Gecko is a rarely kept gecko species, but it is a fascinating animal for dedicated keepers. Its striking appearance, natural behaviours, and perfect suitability to bioactive enclosures make a great option for gecko enthusiasts looking for something a bit different.
