This listing is for a pack of 4 Orthoceras fossils, each one a preserved remnant of an ancient straight-shelled cephalopod that once swam in Earth’s prehistoric seas. These fossils are embedded in a dark limestone matrix and are collected from the Devonian-aged marine deposits of the Atlas Mountains in Morocco.
Orthoceras were ancestors of modern squid and nautilus, with long, conical shells divided into chambers. These chambers helped control buoyancy, allowing the animal to move vertically through the water. Over time, their shells fossilized in marine sediments, leaving behind distinctive tapered shapes often preserved with exceptional detail.
Each piece in the set displays a unique fossil, with variations in orientation, polish, and matrix shape. Some fossils may show multiple segments or fine shell markings, while others may be partially embedded or more prominently exposed.
Ideal for fossil collections, classroom displays, or decorative use, these Orthoceras specimens are striking reminders of ancient ocean life—preserved in stone for hundreds of millions of years.
