The Nicobar Island Sun Skink (Eutropis rugifera) is a medium-sized, semi-terrestrial skink adapted to warm, humid environments. It typically exhibits a brown to olive base colouration with subtle patterning and a slightly rough-scaled appearance, providing camouflage among leaf litter and forest debris. This species is diurnal and frequently utilizes sun-exposed areas for thermoregulation while remaining in proximity to cover.

In captivity, an enclosure with adequate floor space and environmental complexity is recommended. A substrate that retains moisture while allowing drainage is suitable, supplemented with leaf litter, bark, and other cover objects. Multiple hiding areas should be provided, along with some low climbing structures such as branches and logs.

A clear thermal gradient is required, including a defined basking area and cooler retreat zones. High humidity should be maintained through regular misting, while ensuring sufficient ventilation. A shallow water dish should be available at all times.

This species feeds on live insects, and prey items should be appropriately sized. A varied diet is recommended, along with routine supplementation of calcium and vitamins to support overall health.

Due to its speed and alert behaviour, this species is not suited to handling. When maintained under appropriate environmental conditions, it exhibits natural behaviours including basking, active foraging, and use of both open and covered areas within the enclosure.
