The Malaysia Bent-toed Gecko (Cyrtodactylus elok) is a small, slender species within the diverse Cyrtodactylus genus. Its name “elok” means “beautiful” in Malay, reflecting its attractive and varied pattern of irregular blotches and banding across the body. This species is nocturnal and semi-arboreal, most active during the night when it forages for insects among vegetation and forest floor leaf litter.

In captivity, C. elok thrives in a vertically oriented, well-planted terrarium that replicates its natural rainforest environment. Humidity levels should be kept high (70–85%) with daily misting to provide drinking opportunities and to maintain a moist microclimate. Good airflow is essential to prevent stagnant, overly damp conditions. Temperatures should remain in the mid-20s°C, with a drop at night. As with other geckos, strong UVB is not strictly required but is beneficial for overall health when provided at low levels.

Their diet should consist of small, varied live insects such as crickets, fruit flies, small roaches, and moths. Feeders should be appropriately sized, gut-loaded, and dusted with calcium and vitamin supplements.

C. elok is a shy and delicate gecko, better suited as a display species than for regular handling. With correct care, they can live up to 10 years in captivity.
