The Lopburi Bent-Toed Gecko (Cyrtodactylus panitvongi) is a beautifully patterned limestone-dwelling species from central Thailand. This gecko is strongly associated with karst environments—one of the reasons it often displays sharper, more defined patterning than many forest-floor Cyrtodactylus.
In the wild, C. panitvongi inhabits humid limestone systems, where it shelters in crevices, cave entrances, and the shaded undersides of rocky outcrops. At night, it emerges to forage among rock faces, leaf litter, and low shrubs in search of insects. To replicate this in captivity, enclosures should provide a mix of rocky structures (cork flats, stacked stone, faux karst backgrounds), multiple hides, and loose substrate for humidity retention. Adding leaf litter, vines, and sturdy branches helps recreate the complex microhabitats they navigate in nature. Humidity of around 60–80% with regular but moderate misting supports hydration while still allowing the enclosure to dry slightly between cycles.
Temperature needs are modest, as this species thrives in relatively cool, stable tropical conditions. A subtle warm area is acceptable, but the enclosure should remain mostly shaded and cool, with no exposure to strong heat. Low-level UVB should be provided.
Their diet consists entirely of small to medium live insects. A varied rotation—crickets, roaches, mealworms, silkworms, and black soldier fly larvae—keeps them stimulated and well-nourished. Regular supplementation with calcium and multivitamins ensures proper bone health, especially for growing juveniles and breeding females.
With proper care, Cyrtodactylus panitvongi is a hardy, long-lived species that typically reaches 8–12+ years in captivity. Handling should be minimal.
