Kendall’s Rock Gecko (Cnemaspis kendallii) is a small, diurnal gecko adapted to warm, humid forest environments. It typically exhibits a brown to grey base colouration with darker banding or mottling, often accompanied by lighter markings that provide camouflage against rock surfaces and tree bark. This species is primarily saxicolous and arboreal, occupying vertical and inclined surfaces in its natural habitat.
In captivity, a vertically oriented enclosure is recommended, with ample climbing surfaces such as cork bark, rock structures, and textured backgrounds. Multiple narrow hiding spaces should be provided to replicate natural crevices. Good ventilation is important, while maintaining adequate humidity levels.
A moderate thermal gradient should be established, with access to a localized basking area and cooler zones. Humidity should be kept relatively high, supported by regular misting to simulate natural environmental conditions. A shallow water source or water droplets from misting should be available for hydration.
Kendall’s Rock Geckos feed on small live insects and require appropriately sized prey items. Regular supplementation with calcium and vitamins is necessary to support proper growth and physiological function.
Due to their small size and fast movement, this species is not suited to handling. When maintained under stable environmental conditions, it exhibits natural behaviours including climbing, foraging, and use of vertical space.
