The Gold-banded Bent-toed Gecko (Cyrtodactylus auribalteatus) is a striking, medium-sized gecko native to the forests and limestone karst regions of Thailand. Its name refers to the distinctive golden bands and markings that stand out against a darker background, giving it a bold and highly attractive appearance. Like most bent-toed geckos, it is nocturnal and spends its days hidden in rock crevices, caves, or under forest debris, emerging at night to hunt.
In captivity, C. auribalteatus requires a secure enclosure that mimics its natural environment. Vertical space and climbing opportunities are important, alongside plenty of rock-like hides, cork bark, and branches. A temperature gradient of 24–28°C should be provided, with no need for strong basking. Humidity should be maintained at 70–90%, achieved through daily misting, but with adequate ventilation to prevent stagnation.
The diet should consist of a variety of gut-loaded insects such as crickets, roaches, and mealworms, all dusted with calcium and vitamin supplements. They are lively nocturnal hunters and thrive on varied prey offerings. With correct care, C. auribalteatus can live for 8–12 years in captivity.
The Gold-banded Bent-toed Gecko is a visually impressive and somewhat uncommon species in the reptile hobby. Its bold patterning, combined with the typical secretive yet active nature of Cyrtodactylus, makes it a rewarding choice for keepers interested in Southeast Asian forest geckos.
