This fossil jaw section comes from Elosuchus cherifiensis, a giant crocodyliform that inhabited the river systems and coastal shallows of North Africa during the Cretaceous period. Closely related to modern crocodiles, Elosuchus could grow several metres long and was perfectly adapted for life both in water and on land.

This jaw fragment shows the detailed bone texture and empty tooth sockets of these large predators, giving a clear sense of the animal’s formidable bite. These teeth were conical and well-suited for gripping fish and other prey, reflecting Elosuchus’ role as a top predator in its environment.

Fossils from Morocco’s Kem Kem Beds are world-renowned for their diversity and preservation, capturing a picture of Cretaceous life in ancient river deltas.
