The Fantasy Pacman Frog is a captive-bred hybrid created by crossing the Cranwell’s Horned Frog (Ceratophrys cranwelli) with the Surinam Horned Frog (Ceratophrys cornuta). This hybrid combines the bulk and colour variety of cranwelli with the elongated snout and exaggerated horn-like projections of cornuta, resulting in a striking and highly sought-after amphibian in the hobby.

Like their parent species, Fantasy Pacman Frogs are sit-and-wait ambush predators, spending most of their lives buried in substrate with only their eyes visible, waiting to lunge at passing prey. They thrive in enclosures with a moist but well-draining substrate such as coco fibre, sphagnum moss, or soil, kept humid but not saturated. A shallow water dish should be provided for soaking. Height is unimportant, as this is a ground-dwelling species.

They require an ambient temperature range of 24–28°C, with a mild night drop, and do not need a basking spot. UVB lighting is not essential but may be beneficial for long-term health.

In terms of diet, Fantasy Pacman Frogs are voracious feeders. They will readily consume gut-loaded crickets, roaches, earthworms, and occasional small vertebrates such as pinkie mice. As with cranwelli, care must be taken to avoid obesity, as they are sedentary by nature and prone to overeating. Regular calcium and vitamin supplementation is recommended.

Fantasy Pacman Frogs are hardy, visually unique, and can live 10–15 years in captivity when properly cared for. While not suitable for handling due to their delicate skin and powerful bite, they make a striking display animal for amphibian keepers looking for something unusual.
