The Egyptian Lake Frog (Rana ridibunda) is a large, robust, and highly aquatic frog species known for its variable green to olive coloration, often marked with dark spots and a lighter dorsal stripe. It is a strong swimmer and spends most of its life in or very close to water.

This species is both diurnal and nocturnal, frequently seen basking at the water’s edge during the day and actively hunting both in and out of the water. It is an opportunistic predator with a wide diet and a bold feeding response.

In captivity, a semi-aquatic to fully aquatic enclosure is essential. A large water area should be provided with clean, filtered water, along with accessible land areas such as sloped banks, floating platforms, or rocks for resting and basking.

Humidity should be maintained at moderate to high levels (60–80%), though this is naturally supported by the aquatic setup. Good water quality and filtration are critical for long-term health.

Temperature should be stable, with a mild thermal gradient and access to a warm basking area. UVB lighting can be beneficial, particularly for long-term maintenance.

Feeding consists of a varied diet including live insects (crickets, roaches, worms), aquatic prey, and occasional small vertebrate prey depending on size. Feeding should occur several times per week, with careful portion control to prevent obesity.
