The genus Cubaris is one of the most diverse and visually striking groups of isopods in the hobby. With species ranging from the famous ‘Rubber Ducky’ to a wide variety of colourful locality forms, Cubaris remain highly sought after by enthusiasts.
Cubaris sp. ‘Yellow Tiger’ is a particularly eye-catching variety, named for its distinctive striped pattern of golden-yellow bands across a darker body. This bold contrast makes them stand out in display enclosures and has quickly made them a popular collector’s species. Like all Cubaris, they are capable of conglobation (rolling into a ball) as a defence.
This species requires warm temperatures and high humidity, with a well-prepared enclosure providing both damp refuges and slightly drier zones. A deep, moisture-retentive substrate topped with moss, bark, and leaf litter will help maintain microclimates and encourage burrowing and foraging behaviour.
Cubaris sp. ‘Yellow Tiger’ is a moderately hardy species compared to some of the more delicate Cubaris morphs, but they still require consistent care to thrive. With patience, they will form a stable colony and reward keepers with their striking appearance.
