Crystal White Woodlice are an all white form of Porcellio laevis that has been selectively bred from the Dairy Cow form to remove the black spots. In a successful breeding captive population of these isopods it is likely that other varieties, particularly Dairy Cows, will reappear. These should be removed in order to selectively breed this back out.
P. laevis is a very hardy species that is tolerant of broad ranging temperatures and humidity; with all colour varieties requiring the same care; making it an isopod suitable for beginners. It’s on the larger scale in terms of size and one of the easiest isopods to keep and breed. They will eat anything and therefore also make an excellent custodian for bioactive enclosures.
Their common name of Swift Woodlouse is down to their high speed they can attain when exposed.
