The European Spiny Isopod (Cristarmadillidium muricatum) is often given the charming name of Crystal Pineapple, an accurate description of their unique appearance. These are a relatively rare, pale coloured species found in Spain. They are a small species, only growing to around 6-7mm as adults, but their interesting appearance makes up for their diminutive size!
Crystal Pineapples are shyer than some other species available, though they definitely feel more secure when kept in larger groups, leading to more activiy. Being a Spanish native, this species is easily maintained and is very tolerant of a range of temperatures. They do best kept between 1 and 27°C, but can tolerate temperatures of 30°C+. Like other Spanish species, this species prefers a less moist environment compared to other isopods, with plenty of airflow, as they may have issues moulting if humidity levels become too high.
