The Red Form of Brown Anole (Anolis sagrei) is a vibrant colour variant of the widespread brown anole. It is known for its intense red colour and an orange-to-red dewlap, which is more vivid than in standard forms. Highly active and inquisitive, this species spends much of its time on low branches, fence posts, and ground-level cover where it hunts and displays. Like nearly all anoles, it is quick, alert, and strongly territorial.

In its natural range, A. sagrei thrives in warm, open habitats with ample sunlight. In captivity, it does best in a well-ventilated, vertically structured enclosure that provides a mix of low perches, angled branches, cork bark, and dense foliage for retreat. Open spaces for basking and display are important, as this species frequently engages in head-bobbing and dewlap extensions.

A defined basking spot around 30–32°C is recommended, along with appropriate UVB lighting to ensure proper calcium metabolism and overall health. Ambient temperatures should remain warm, and humidity between 50–70% works well. Daily misting provides drinking water droplets while allowing the enclosure to dry between sprays.

A. sagrei feeds readily on a range of small insects. Crickets, small locusts, roaches, mealworms, and black soldier fly larvae make up a suitable staple diet. Regular calcium and multivitamin supplementation is important for growth and long-term health, especially in breeding females.

With proper care, this species is hardy and long-lived for its size. While fast and not suited for regular handling, it is highly enjoyable to observe due to its active behaviour, bright coloration, and constant interaction with its environment. This makes the red form of Brown Anole an excellent display species for naturalistic or bioactive enclosures.
