The African Green Toad (Bufotes boulengeri) is a hardy, terrestrial toad species adapted to semi-arid environments. It typically displays a pale background coloration with irregular green patches and spots, often accompanied by small reddish or dark markings. Its skin is warty and well suited for reducing water loss in drier habitats.

This species is primarily nocturnal, spending the day hidden under rocks, in burrows, or beneath debris to avoid heat and desiccation. It emerges at night to forage for food and is often associated with temporary water sources during breeding periods.

In captivity, a horizontally oriented enclosure with a substrate that retains some moisture while allowing burrowing is recommended. A mix of soil and sand works well, with hides such as bark, rocks, and cork provided to create secure shelter.

Humidity should be kept moderate (40–60%), with localized damp areas available but overall good ventilation to prevent excessive moisture. A shallow water dish should always be provided for soaking and hydration.

Temperature should include a mild thermal gradient, avoiding excessive heat. This species does not require intense basking but benefits from stable ambient conditions.

Feeding consists of appropriately sized live insects such as crickets, mealworms, beetles, and other invertebrates. Feeding should occur several times per week, preferably in the evening when the toad is most active.
