Keeping reptiles is about mimicking aspects of where they are found in nature; this includes the substrate they live on. In recent years our level of understanding of reptiles and their care has increased indefinitely, partly due to the ongoing research on their wild habitat and habits. This has lead to the development of ‘Species Specific’ substrates.
Species specific substrates are generally those that have been designed to replicate the wild habits of key pet species; such as Bearded Dragons, Leopard Geckos, and Mediterranean tortoises.
There is also some substrates that have been developed as a general one for specific animals due to it’s ease of maintenance and suitability. This includes Snake Bedding and Spider Bedding.
