Ceramics & Infrared

Ceramics and other Infrared heat sources like Deep Heat Projectors are good for providing warm basking temps, or generating background heat. Ceramic lamps tend to radiate heat in all directions and be better suited at heating a large enclosure than a DHP or Radiator.

All heat sources should be fitted to an appropriate thermostat which will ensure the temperature does not drop too low, and also does not get dangerously high. Ceramics and other Infrared heaters are best controlled by a pulse or dimming thermostat.

It goes without saying that many bulbs and other sources can become hot to the touch, so in many cases it is worth adding a guard to protect you and your animal from coming into contact with the heat. This is particularly necessary for snakes.
