Basking Bulbs

Reptile basking bulbs are designed specifically for reptiles to provide a focused area of warm light in the form of UVA and infrared radiation. Halogens are the recommended basking bulb as they have longer lifespans and produce a more intense level of heat than standard incandescent bulbs of the same wattage.

All heat sources should be fitted to an appropriate thermostat which will ensure the temperature does not drop too low, and also does not get dangerously high. All light emitting heat sources must be controlled by a dimming stat, using a different kind of stat will limit the lifespan of the bulb and may cause it to shatter.

It goes without saying that many bulbs and other sources can become hot to the touch, so in many cases it is worth adding a guard to protect you and your animal from coming into contact with the heat. This is particularly necessary for snakes.‚Äč
